User interfaces in WEM
Many application development platforms and almost all web applications have a fairly traditional (nice way of saying old-fashioned) approach to user interface design, single function screens, static layout, hard to optimize for different devices and new design requires in depth surgery.
WEM has some very interesting features that allow you, the creator of the applications to build fully functional, responsive and great looking applications without programming. Let me highlight some of the capabilities that WEM brings that allow you to build full featured cross-platform and great looking applications using the WEM application platform.
- The latest, and arguably the greatest, new feature is overlays. Overlays allow you to create automatically sized windows inside your application to display additional information or features, upon returning to your original screen or the underlying overlay (yes, they can be stacked) any updated data is automatically processed. This feature allows you to build fully featured applications using a rapid development platform without jumping from screen to screen.
- By defining what to show depending on user device capabilities you can easily create a responsive design that uses all available screen real-estate in the most optimal way. By default the application menu is included in this responsive behavior
- The look and feel of application is managed using Master Templates, these are Bootstrap based models that define everything from the colors and the fonts to the placement of the menus and the layout of tables.
- Application logic and presentation are, to a large extend, separate items in the WEM modeler, this allows you to create a single application with numerous portals each with entirely different design and user experience.
Building great looking applications that work the same on every devices, require no programming skills and achieve results fast is easy with WEM Modeler.
